Causes of Hematuria

And, when you have hematuria, the blood cells escape into your urine from your kidneys or other sections of your urinary tract. Generally, hematuria is caused due to taking certain medications. But there can be other causes too, which would include:

  • Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)
  • Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
  • Enlarged Prostate
  • Kidney or Bladder Infection
  • Cancer
  • Kidney Injury
  • Inherited Diseases
  • Medications
  • Strenuous Activity

Symptoms of Hematuria

The name of the condition is self-explanatory for the disease. The presence of red blood cells causes gross hematuria, which results in pink, red, or cola-colored urine. It just takes a small amount of blood to generate red urine, and the bleeding is usually painless. Yes, you are guessing it right. In most cases of hematuria, the patient passes bloody urine with no pain. However, in severe cases, passing urine might be painful due to blood clots. But keep in mind, bloody urine can develop without any other symptoms or indicators.

When to see a Doctor?

Do not hesitate once you notice anything strange about your urine. Consult a doctor right away if you notice blood when you urinate.
