The third edition of Health Tech, an annual summit on the growing role of technology in healthcare delivery, was held on 21st and 22nd February 2020, at The Vivanta, Kolkata. The summit is a collaborative venture of Medica Hospitals and The Bengal Chamber of Commerce. The event brought together key stakeholders involved in different spheres of healthcare delivery – medical practitioners, IT professionals, academicians, technology providers, manufactures, etc. – on a common platform to discuss the new-age digital disruptions, which can be integrated with existing healthcare infrastructure.

Interesting discourses and panel discussions on the role of technology in healthcare featured stalwarts from the industry presenting their viewpoints. Some of these sessions involved the following topics:

  • New-age technologies transforming the pharmaceutical industry
  • How new tech will disrupt patient – Doctors’ dynamics
  • Emerging technologies in healthcare delivery- Case Studies
  • Technology enabling insurance to make healthcare affordable
  • Leadless pacemaker: A new technology of slow heart rhythm therapy

The conference also witnessed the release of a Thought Paper on ‘A Technology Boost for Achieving Universal Health Protection’ by Knowledge partner PwC. Thought leaders and experts involved in healthcare also ideated strategies on how digital health technologies and tools can become a catalyst in bridging the healthcare divide.

Impact on and importance of Safety on Quality of patient care was successfully completed on 11th January at Medica Superspecialty Hospital,Kolkata.

Around 100 delegates from around the city as well as neighbouring states like Jharkhand, Orissa, Bihar and even Tripura participated in this conference with great enthusiasm.

Various Topics covering the entire spectrum of Quality and Safety related issues were covered ranging from quality tools, clinician panel discussion on safety aspects in OR, Critical Care, Anaesthesia, Infection Control and Neonatology. This was followed by session on impact of nursing excellence on safety and facility safety and safety impact of food and nutrition were also discussed.

Medica Superspecialty Hospital Kolkata and Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry organized Health Tech 2018 (a Summit, bringing together technologies applicable in healthcare on one platform) from 8th-11th March 2018 at the Hyatt Regency, Kolkata.
The conference was inaugurated by Medica Group of Hospitals and Past President, Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and Mr Deb A Mukherjee, Vice President, BCCI, and Managing Director, Cenergist Energy Private Limited. Dr Roy opened the summit with a short talk on the permeation of technology into every aspect of healthcare and the growing dependence on it. Mr Mukherjee gave the welcome address setting the tone for the interesting sessions to come in the next three days. He also moderated the first session of the summit which had Mr Moloy Banerjee (Head, South Asia, Linde Gases Division) and Archil Dzuliashvili, Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of India, the Kingdom of Thailand, the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka, and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, Government of Georgia as the speakers.

The next three days focused on cutting edge technologies in healthcare including Robotics, Analytics, Tele Medicine and the role of Artificial Intelligence. The speakers and panelists debated the pros and cons of the growing influence of technology on healthcare, and its future. They discussed how technology in healthcare is gaining popularity with passing time and improving with scientific advancements. Speakers included eminent personalities with healthcare backgrounds – administrators, Doctors and Information Technology personnel.

From electronic records in the doctor’s office to robotic instruments in the operating room, information technology is now redefining how healthcare functions in our society. Use of healthcare mobile applications is fast becoming a norm. According to industry estimates, about 500 million smartphone users worldwide would have used a healthcare application by 2015, and by 2018, 50 percent of the more than 3.4 billion smartphone and tablet users will have downloaded mobile health applications. Health Tech aimed to address these areas of development by bringing together experts who discussed, debated, demonstrated and explored new avenues of advancements in this field.
