“Curing the sick and saving lives are the kind of inter–people activities that cannot be matched or measured by money or anything in kind” – Known for revolutionising healthcare services, Medica Superspecialty Hospital (MSH) has further strengthened its Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery services by acquiring the latest technological innovations from Medistim Devices.
Transmit Time Flow Measurement by Medistim is the latest and the most advanced technique in the field of cardiac surgery. It helps in determining the blood flow through the conduit – bypass channels (Artery/Vein) – used for Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting and is much more reliable than traditional methods like ECG, BP, etc.
Other technical innovations introduced at Medica that are set to revolutionise Cardiac treatment in the region:
• Endoscopic Vessel Harvesting (EVH): One of the latest and most advanced procedures for conduit harvesting in CABG. It requires a very small incision, and apart from the cosmetic benefits, the pain is much less as compared to the open technique. MSH is the only centre in Eastern India that performs EVH.
• Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenator (ECMO): A technique that provides cardiac and respiratory support to patients whose heart and lungs are unable to provide an adequate amount of gas exchange to sustain life. ECMO works by removing blood from the patient’s body and artificially removing the carbon dioxide and oxygenating red blood cells. Medica is the only center in Eastern India to have a dedicated ECMO machine with 24 hours support.
• Fractional Flow Reserve (FFR): a procedure that helps in accurate diagnosis of a heart block. It significantly reduces unnecessary stenting/revascularization and helps in optimizing the therapy for heart patients.
This information was shared with the media recently by the Cardiac team atMedica. Present during the occasion were Dr. Kunal Sarkar, Senior Vice Chairman and Head of Cardiac Surgery, Medica, Dr. Dilip Kumar, renowned Cardiologist &Sr Consultant at Medica, along with Mr. Prashant Narshima, Managing Director of RND International AG, India – the German brand behind Medistim.
