Configuring Contours with Competence and Expertise
Hymenoplasty (hymen repair) is the cosmetic repair, restoration, or construction of a woman’s hymen for physical, psychological, or cultural reasons. The hymen is a thin pink membrane made of fibrous and elastic tissue. It surrounds or partially covers the bottom of the external opening of the vagina. One should know that the hymen, contrary to popular belief, is not an impenetrable seal, unless in exceptional circumstances.
With the best infrastructure and personnel, Medica’s team of certified cosmetic and reconstructive surgeons are able to perform complicated procedures with ease and expertise. Our surgeons are skilled and experienced in using the most up-to-date techniques to give our patients the finest possible results.

Who is Eligible?
Since this is a sensitive procedure and the results depend on the patient’s physiology, a gynaecological examination is performed to determine whether the hymen can be restored or not in the first place. Other than that, the following candidates are deemed as eligible patients for Hymenoplasty are:
- Women who are 18 years or above
- Women who have stretched or torn hymen due to sex or other physical activities
- Women who are healthy and not suffering from serious illness, infections, sexually transmitted diseases, and cancer of the genital area
How much time does the procedure take?
Generally, the Hymenoplasty takes around 30 to 40 minutes to complete the surgery. However, the time may vary depending on the type of Hymenoplasty carried out. The doctor may discharge the patient on the same day after one or two hours of surgery. Once the surgery is completed, it takes almost 4 to 6 weeks for the hymen to heal completely.
Complications
Hymenoplasty is a safe surgical procedure. It is performed by trained surgeons. However, some of the potential risks and complications associated with Hymenoplasty are:
- Vaginal bleeding
- Postoperative pain and swelling
- Intense itching
- Bruising
- Numbness and dizziness
- Discolouration of the Hymen
- Unusual or foul-smelling discharge from the vagina
- Infection at the site of operation
What are the Post-operative Measures taken after a Hymenoplasty?
You will be kept under monitoring for a few hours after completion of the surgery. You may feel a little discomfort, bruising, and bleeding after the surgery, which is entirely normal. The doctor will prescribe you some painkillers and antibiotics on discharge. Some of the post-operative measures which are needed to be taken are:
- Do not excessively rub, itch or stretch the area around the genitals for at least 15 days as this area is highly sensitive after Hymenoplasty.
- Keep the area clean and sanitized to prevent infection
- Take a bath after 2-3 days of the surgery
- Avoid swimming for some weeks after a surgery
- Use an ice-pack or compress to ease the pain and swelling
- Refrain from any sexual intercourse for at least eight weeks after the surgery
- Do not insert anything in the vagina (including a tampon) after surgery. Shift to sanitary pads if needed.
- Keep yourself as hydrated as possible and take the medications as prescribed by the doctor.
- Avoid excessive exercise and carry heavy weights for at least 15 days after the surgery.
