Complete Stroke Management and Treatment at Medica
Stroke is one of India’s most common causes of death and disability. There is also a significant range in case fatality rates, with Kolkata having the highest at 42 percent. When the blood flow to a region of your brain is blocked or diminished, brain tissue is deprived of oxygen and nutrients, resulting in a stroke. Within minutes, brain cells begin to die. Medica’ s ‘Stroke Unit’ has 24×7 emergency facilities including thrombolysis, carotid investigations and interventions, and stroke surgery.
We offer Medica Emergency Services that provides 24 hour consultant coverage, has an ACLS ambulance for critical patient transport, and is ready to handle all types of emergencies including strokes.

Symptoms of Stroke
Every year, around 1.8 million people in India suffer from a stroke, and only early treatment can reduce morbidity and mortality. Therefore, knowing the signs can help reduce the fatalities of the stroke. These common symptoms are:
- Difficulty in speech and understanding others.
- Numbness or paralysis of the face, arm, or leg.
- Problems with vision in one or both eyes.
- Sudden severe headaches.
- Difficulty in movement/walking.
Causes of Stroke
A blocked artery (ischemic stroke) or a leaking or bursting blood vessel are the two most common causes of stroke (hemorrhagic stroke). A transient ischemic attack (TIA) is a momentary disruption of blood flow to the brain that does not cause long-term symptoms in some persons.
- Ischemic Stroke: The most common sort of stroke is this one. It occurs when the blood arteries in the brain narrow or block, resulting in substantially restricted blood flow (ischemia).
- Hemorrhagic Stroke: When a blood vessel in your brain leaks or ruptures, it causes a hemorrhagic stroke. Many disorders that alter your blood arteries might cause brain hemorrhages.
- Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA): Often called a ministroke — is a brief period of symptoms that resemble those of a stroke. A TIA happens when a clot or debris restricts or prevents blood flow to a region of your neurological system, similar to an ischemic stroke.
